Job Description 

We are looking for a detail-oriented, hands-on and goal-oriented Product Design Manager to lead our growing Design Team. 

Your role will be to manage, hire and inspire a growing team of passionate designers that have a meaningful impact at Lumel You'll help the team put the user first, coaching designers through our process, and focusing the team on the highest impact problems with the best solutions. You will be an essential member of design leadership. You thrive on collaborating and take great enjoyment in working to improve people, products, and processes. 

 

Requirements 

  • 6+ years' experience designing working as UX Designer or Product Designer, with a minimum of 2 years' experience managing UX teams of 4+ reports. Alternatively, you're able to demonstrate leadership skills and experiences impacting design quality at a team level as a Product Designer. 
  • A portfolio of work you've designed and shipped as well as examples of work you directed delivered by your team. Examples of how you have previously influenced your product teams, organizations or discipline. 
  • You have worked on multiple complex B2B or SaaS products and are comfortable overseeing multiple design projects, ensuring that your team can stay focused on creating great experiences 
  • Penchant for understanding complex problems and products; unafraid to discuss technical feasibility and long-term technology planning 
  • History of strong partnerships with engineering and product management leadership. 
  • A strong eye for craft and solid command of design principles. You can identify gaps in visual or interaction design. 
  • You thrive in ambiguous environments and get excited about figuring out strategies or processes to address them — both in product and internal team structures. 
  • Mentoring, leading and growing your team is truly motivating to you. 
  • You’re comfortable with design reviews and occasionally being hands-on with design tools such as Figma. 
  • Excitement for the chance to shape the design culture at a growing company and eagerness to inspire people with your unique perspective. 
  • Knowledge of modern technology's possibilities and limitations 

 

What you’ll be doing 

  • Manage, mentor and inspire our team of 8 talented Product Designers working across our 4 cross-functional product teams, pushing the quality of their work and facilitating career growth 
  • You’ll advocate for good product design practices, ensure the visibility of product design across functions, create space for collaboration, and develop a deep level of subject matter expertise in the product areas your reports are operating in. 
  • You know how to apply just enough process, keeping the team nimble and successful in a culture that values moving fast and iterating quickly. 
  • Develop a team of highly engaged designers by coaching and instilling a sense of ownership and impact. Provide direction and guidance of product designers' output, promote partnerships and design process. 
  • You'll build close bonds with your corresponding engineering and product management leaders to influence product strategy and ensure world-class product execution. 
  • Partner with Engineering to develop core component frameworks and best-practices. 
  • Monitor program status and rapidly identify issues / risks. Succinctly communicate issues to relevant stakeholders and proactively collaborate to ensure timely resolution 
  • Occasionally you will be hands-on with the design work, pitching in from time to time in order to support your team and keep them focused on deeper work — however this is primarily a management role (especially as the team grows larger).
